Broadcaster and Actress
Kara, who splits her life between the beautiful Nordic countryside and London, is an established and highly respected broadcaster whose career spans over two decades. In recent years Kara has focused mainly on her acting career but has a keen enthusiasm to explore opportunities in unscripted and commercial work. Kara is instantly recognisable, popular and charismatic, proven by her Strictly Come Dancing win in 2010.
Kara began her career with standout roles in Channel 4’s Teachers and Sky’s Dream Team before rising to prominence as Dawn Swann in BBC’s EastEnders. She went on to star as Rose Selfridge in ITV’s Mr. Selfridge , played series regular Betsie in The Halcyon for ITV. Television credits also include Lewis, Henry IX, and Urban Myths. Kara also led an all-star cast as Maria in The Sound of Music Live. On the big screen, Kara has appeared in The Football Factory, The Sweeney alongside Ray Winstone, Last Passenger with Dougray Scott, and The Gallery and various West End stage work.
Commercially she has collaborated with premium jewellery brands such as Storywheels and Ylva Li as well as book and literacy charity Quick Reads and has had a successful underwear campaign with George at Asda.
Kara is a passionate individual bursting with ideas with her interests including sustainability, fashion, and the arts. After her dyslexia diagnosis at age seven, she has been a strong advocate for dyslexia awareness. Kara presented a BBC Lifeline Appeal on behalf of Dyslexia Action, and also appeared in a BBC3 documentary ‘Don’t Call Me Stupid’, exploring the struggles of dyslexia.
Kara is a mum of two young boys aged 6 and 4, and is raising them in Norway bilingually.
